Rock Hill, S.C. — Winthrop softball dropped a doubleheader to Campbell with losses of 3-1 and 5-2, Saturday afternoon at Terry Field.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
- Campbell jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as it all started with the leadoff batter reaching on a fielding error
- After a sacrifice bunt and ground out, Alyssa Henault made her way to third base with two outs
- Noemi Cortez drew a walk on a full count, but the fourth ball was high outside allowing Henault to score on a wild pitch
- Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the first as Kaitlyn Tucker took a 2-2 pitch over the fence in left center
- Campbell regained the lead in the third inning on back-to-back RBI singles
- The first came with two outs as Alexa Pagano sliced one to right field as Paige Rivas charged and made a diving attempt but the ball fell just inches before her glove allowing Henault to come around to score
- Then Samantha Fontaine hit a flare to center that scored Cortez for the 3-1 advantage
- In the bottom of the seventh Mackenzie Smith singled with one out but back-to-back force outs at second base ended the game
- Reese Basinger suffered the loss as she allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts
Game 2
- All the scoring came in the third inning as Campbell pushed five runs across in the top half
- After a leadoff single by Claudia Ware, she stole second and then Delaney McDilda reached on a fielder's choice
- Two batters later Pagano hit a home run down the left field line that was just fair for a 3-0 lead
- Two batters after Pagano, Jaimee Hardy walked and then scored when Savannah White hit a home run to center to lead 5-0
- In the bottom of the third, the Eagles got things going with two outs as Paige Rivas reached on a bunt single and then stole second
- Macy McCall hit a chopper at the right side that was mishandled by the second baseman allowing McCall to reach and Rivas to race around to score from second
- McCall stole second and then scored on a double to right center by Tucker
- Eagles did get runners at the corners with two outs in the bottom of the fourth but Courtney Cygan flied out to left to end the threat
- Winthrop did get two runners on in the sixth, but were unable to drive in a run
- Sydney Boulware tossed 4.1 innings of relief allowing two hits, issuing one walk and striking out two
EXTRA BASES
- Three of the last five meetings between Winthrop and Campbell have been decided by two or fewer runs
- McCall had a streak of reaching base in conference play come to an end at 15 games
- Tucker has an RBI in three straight league games and six RBI in the last six conference games
- With the stolen base in the second game, McCall moved to within three of the program's all-time leader in steals
- The run McCall scored in the second game of the doubleheader was the 100th of her collegiate career
