ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop baseball program defeated Radford at the Winthrop Ballpark on Sunday afternoon, notching their first sweep of the year.
The Eagles are 9-18 (4-2 Big South).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Radford put two men on base in the top of the second inning, but a groundout ended the early threat
- The Eagles had men on first and second in the bottom half of the frame, but were unable to get either home
- Winthrop broke through in a big way in the bottom of the third
- Ty Hooks, Szvetitz, and Spyke all singled with Hooks eventually coming around to score
- After Tepper walked, Morton hit a grand slam to left field, breaking the game open
- The Highlanders came back with a run in the fourth as they scored on a wild pitch
- In the bottom of the frame, a Hooks sacrifice fly and a double from Szvetitz brought in two more runs
- Radford used a double and then a single to center field to cut into the lead once again
- The bottom of the sixth saw the Eagles put up four more runs as Spyke singled in Luke Hannum and Robby Taul and Tepper homered to left field
- In the seventh, Winthrop exploded for seven more runs to completely break open the game
- A Jonathan Strauss double preceded a single from Taul that led to another run
- A few batters later, a walk and a wild pitch led to two more runs
- A Tepper single to left field brought in two more, and Morton's homer then gave Winthrop an 18-2 lead
