Rock Hill, S.C. — Winthrop softball suffered a 5-2 defeat in the series finale at Presbyterian College, Sunday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
- In the bottom of the second the Blue Hose grabbed a 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI single from Rebecca Clark
- In the bottom of the third the Blue Hose increased their lead as Lath Freeman hit a two out home run and then three batters later a throwing error allowed another run to score
- Eagles got their first base runners in the top of the fourth as Pagie Rivas drew a one-out walk
- Kaitlyn Tucker stepped in with a chance to get things going but was called out for batter's interference
- McKenzie West then singled with two outs, but Lauren Daniels went down swinging to end the top half
- Eagles got things going in the top of the fifth as Ashton Vanhouse singled with one out
- Vanhouse stole second and then advance to third on the play after an errant throw from the catcher
- Ella McGalliard walked to put two runners on and then two batters later Macy McCall walked to load the bases
- Paige Rivas stepped in with a chance to drive in a run and did so as she was hit on a 2-2 pitch, scoring Vanhouse
- Tucker got another chance at the plate and came through with a single up the middle to pull the Eagles within a run at 3-2 and forcing a pitching change by PC
- PC regained its three run lead in the bottom of the fifth as Morgan Hess hit a two-run home run
- Eagles got a runner on in the sixth and seventh but were unable to come through
EXTRA BASES
- Macy McCall extended her streak of reaching base to 11 straight games and 15 straight conference games
- Eagles remain 5th place in the Big South standings with six league contests remaining
- When Paige Rivas was hit by a pitch in the 5th inning it was the 39th time this season an Eagle been hit
- The 39 hit-by-pitch ties the program record for the most in a single-season, which was set in 2021
ON DECK
The Eagles head to Mt. Pleasant, S.C. on Tuesday, Apr. 26 for their final non-conference matchup of the regular season when they face the College of Charleston in a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
