Morton Homers Twice, Eagles Drop Series Finale At PC

Clinton, S.C. - Winthrop baseball fell 6-4 at Presbyterian College in a back and forth affair, Sunday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • Dillon Morton got the Eagles on the scoreboard first a homerun to right field in the top of the first
  • In the bottom of the 1st, the Blue Hose responded with two runs on RBI singles from Dalton Reeves and Jeremiah Boyd
  • Morton tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth as he connected for his second solo homer
  • PC answered in the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff home run from Reeves and an RBI single from Noah Lebron later in the inning
  • In the top of the 5th Robby Taul scored Khyree Miller on a sacrifice fly, pulling the Eagles within a run at 4-3
  • Winthrop tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh when Taul grounded to third that scored Joseph Szvetitz on a fielding error by the third baseman
  • PC regained the lead in the bottom of the 7th as Boyd provided a two-run double
  • Eagles had a chance in the ninth inning to tie or take the with runners at first and second and two outs as Morton came to the plate but was called out on strikes on a full count to end the game
  • Jack Spyke and Morton both extended their hitting streaks to five games
  • For the second time this season, Morton hit two home runs in a single-game
