Rock Hill, S.C. — Winthrop softball dropped both games of a doubleheader on Saturday with losses of 5-0 and 4-3 at Presbyterian College.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
- The Eagles were held to two hits in the game by Presbyterian College's Jenna Greene, who is 3rd in the Big South in strikeouts and 5th in ERA
- With two outs in the sixth, Macy McCall singled to left for the first hit and that was followed by a single from Paige Rivas but Kaitlyn Tucker struck out to end the threat
- The Blue Hose took a 2-0 lead in the in the bottom of the first on a two-run, two out double by Morgan Hess
- A three-run home run by Hess came with two outs as she put the Blue Hose up 5-0
- Reese Basinger took the loss after allowing five runs on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts
- Green earned the win as she allowed no runs on two hits with a walk and 11 strikeouts
Game 2
- Blue Hose grabbed the early lead as a leadoff walk led to an RBI single from Lath Freeman
- Eagles wasted no time getting the run back and more as they pushed three across in the second inning
- Tucker started things off with a leadoff walk and two batter later Ashton Vanhouse singled
- Lauren King then walked to load the bases as Ella McGalliard tied the game on a sacrifice fly to left
- Mackenzie Smith then singled and moved to second on the throw home as Vanhouse scored for a 2-1 lead
- McCall followed with a single to left, scoring King from third base
- PC tied the game in the bottom of the third on a two-run single by Freeman
- In the bottom of the sixth the Eagles committed an error on the leadoff batter, who eventually came around to score on a single to center by Kelby Goodrum
- In the top of the seventh, pinch-hitter Lauren Daniels led off with a double to left to put a runner in scoring position
- After back-to-back strikeouts McCall hit a fly ball to right but it was caught to end the threat
- Sydney Boulware took the loss as she allowed three earned runs on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts
EXTRA BASES
- Paige Rivas extended her hitting streak to 10 games in the first game before going 0-for-3 in the second game of the doubleheader
- McCall extended her streak of reaching base in conference play to 14 straight
- In the opening game the teams were a combined 2-for-13 leading off, but combined to go 8-for-13 in game two

The teams will wrap-up the series on Sunday, Apr. 24 with a single-game at 1 p.m.
