Rock Hill, S.C – Winthrop head men's basketball coach
Mark Prosser announced the commitment of Kasen Harrison Wednesday afternoon.
Harrison is transferring to Winthrop after playing his first two seasons at Lamar University where he averaged double-figures both years. The Beaumont, Texas native averaged 10.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 16 games played this past season. Harrison, who has three years of eligibility remaining, led all freshmen in the Southland Conference with 13.1 ppg in 2020-21.
'We are truly excited to welcome Kasen, and his family, into ours at Winthrop," said Prosser, who guided the Eagles to 23 wins in his first season. "We have a locker room full of great kids and Kasen will fit right in. As a player, Kasen has shown the ability to affect the game at a high level, at both ends of the floor. He has been a producer, creating offense for both himself and for others, since he entered Division 1 basketball and we look forward to having him in the garnet and gold for the next few years."
In 2021-22 Harrison made 12 starts in his 16 games played while posting double-figures in 11 contests. As a freshman his 13.1 ppg were second-best on the team and led the team with 4.0 assists per game (ranked 5
th in the Southland). Harrison, a 6-1 guard, also finished 7
th in the Southland in steals per game at 1.48. Posted double-figures in 19 games with a career-high 24 against Nicholls State (2/10/21). In his freshman season he helped guide Lamar to the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament as a six-seed.
Over the course of his first two seasons he's averaged 12.2 ppg, 2.9 rpg, and 3.7 apg in an average of 31.1 minutes per game. He's shooting 44 percent from the floor, 33 percent from three and 79 percent at the foul line.
Harrison played high school at Beaumont United where he earned District MVP honors following his junior season and was a 2020 First Team Super Gold selection.
