Spartanburg, S.C. — Winthrop softball dropped the final game of the Big South series at USC Upstate in a 9-0 loss Saturday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Macy McCall led off the game with a single up the middle and then moved to second on a Paige Rivas sacrifice bunt
- McCall moved to third on a ground out but was stranded as Lauren Daniels struck out swinging
- Spartans grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning as T. Domingue and P. Darnell came through with RBI singles
- Upstate added three more runs in the second with the first coming on an RBI single from C. Delorenzo
- The second run came on a throwing error on a Sarah Price steal attempt to third as she came home for a 4-0 advantage
- Domingue added the third run with a sacrifice fly to left
- In the top of the fourth Kaitlyn Tucker doubled with one out but was thrown out trying to reach third on the play
- Isabella Clark had a one-out single in the fifth and was replaced by McKenzie Smith as a pinch-runner, who was stranded at first
- Spartans got two-run home runs from C. Goguts in the fifth and then Domingue in the sixth to end the game
EXTRA BASES
- McCall's single in the top of the first extended her hitting streak to four straight games
- Over the weekend series McCall moved within one hit of 120 in her career
- The first inning single by McCall was the 12th of the season and has now been on base 21 times in the first inning (12 hits, eight walks, reached on error)
ON DECK
Eagles remain on the road this week as they'll head to Columbia, S.C. on Wednesday, Apr. 6 to take on South Carolina in a single-game scheduled for 6 p.m.
