BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Winthrop lacrosse program battled hard in the second half, but fell to Campbell on the road Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Campbell scored the first three goals of the day
• Grayson McKenzie then got the Eagles on the board with a free position shot
• The Camels then scored three more times for a 6-1 lead after one period
• The second quarter saw much less scoring as Campbell scored twice and Winthrop notched one goal
• The Camels led 8-2 at halftime
• Campbell scored the first two goals of the second half, but the Eagles quickly mounted a comeback with four consecutive goals from Claire Witmer (2), Lauren Asher, and Ellie Dutton
• The teams then traded scores before another Campbell goal gave the home team a five-goal advantage
• Two more goals from Asher and Dankowski cut the lead back to three before the Camels tacked on two more
• Asher notched the Eagles' tenth goal of the day, but Campbell scored the last three of the afternoon for a decisive victory

NOTABLES

• Asher led the Eagles with three goals, five ground balls, and three caused turnovers
• Lexi Johnson and McKenzie tied for the team lead with four draw controls
