ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop baseball program defeated Radford at the Winthrop Ballpark Saturday afternoon, clinching the weekend series in the process.
The Eagles are 8-18 (3-2 Big South).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Radford had runners on first and second in the second inning, but a successful pickoff attempt and a double play ended the threat
- Winthrop got into scoring position quickly when Jack Spyke was hit by a pitch and advanced on a passed ball
- Tepper then walked to put runners on first and third
- Morton then singled to center field to score Spyke
- Strass flew out to score Tepper for the second run of the game
- After Miller walked and a wild pitch advance the runners, Robby Taul flew out to right field, scoring Morton
- Miller also scored on an error by the right fielder
- The Eagles put together a great fifth inning to extend their lead
- After Tepper doubled, Strauss hit a no-doubter to left field for a 6-0 lead
- Later, Ty Hooks singled to the pitcher and advanced to second on an error, scoring Luke Hannum and Miller
- Joseph Szvetitz then singled to center field, scoring Hooks
- Radford got on the board in the top of the fifth on an RBI groundout and a sharply hit single, cutting the lead to seven
- Hannum got to third base after walking in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Szvetitz grounded out to end the inning
- The Highlanders got a runner to third in the top of the seventh, but were unable to bring him home
- Winthrop brought in their tenth run of the game on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth
