Rock Hill, S.C. — For the second time in two days freshman
Reese Basinger shutout Gardner-Webb as Winthrop completed a series sweep with a 7-0 victory, Saturday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Eagles struck first in the third inning, which ended up being all the runs needed
- Vianna Rodriguez led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a ground out
- Macy McCall walked and after Paige Rivas flied out to left, Kaitlyn Tucker doubled to score both base runners
- Winthrop added three more runs in the fourth inning as King set the table with a leadoff walk
- Mackenzie Smith followed with a single as pinch-runner McKenzie West moved to second
- Two batters later Ashton Vanhouse came through with a two-run triple to double the lead to 4-0
- Later in in the inning with two outs, Paige Rivas delivered an RBI single to score Vanhouse
- Tucker added to the lead in the sixth inning with an RBI single scoring McCall
- In the seventh inning pinch-hitter Isabella Clark led off with a single
- Courtney Cygan came back in to run for Clark and moved to second on a ground out
- Following an Ashley Wood single to put runners at the corners, pinch-hitter Ella McGalliard doubled to score Cygan
- Reese Basinger tossed a complete game shutout allowing just two hits with one walk and six strikeouts
EXTRA BASES
- Basinger tossed her third career shutout and third in conference play as she improves to 9-9
- This was the second series sweep by the Eagles as they opened league competition with a sweep of North Carolina A&T
- This was the 5th time in the last 6th meetings the Eagles have shutout the Runnin' Bulldogs
- McCall has now reached base in 12 straight league games
- Paige Rivas extended her current hitting streak to nine games
- McCall scored twice in the game for her 99th career run
- In the three-game series, the Eagles had 10 or more hits in each game
ON DECK
Eagles will be off during the week and return to action on Saturday, Apr. 23 in Clinton, S.C. as they travel to Presbyterian College. The series starts with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon and will conclude on Sunday with a single-game at 1 p.m.
