BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Winthrop baseball program fell to Gardner-Webb on the road Thursday evening.
 
The Eagles are 12-21 (6-4 Big South).

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Gardner-Webb's first batter singled and eventually advance to second, but the Runnin' Bulldogs were unable to capitalize
• Morton stroked a single to center field in the top of the second inning, but was stranded there for the rest of the frame
• Gardner-Webb had runners on the corners in the bottom of the frame, but three consecutive outs ended the threat
• Winthrop had runners on the corners in the top half of the third, but a strikeout ended the half-inning
• Taul singled and stole second in the fifth, but was unable to advance any further
• The Runnin' Bulldogs got on the board in the bottom of the inning as an RBI single brought home the first run of the night
• The Eagles had runners on first and third again in the top of the sixth, but a strikeout kept them stranded
• Gardner-Webb tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single and an RBI double
• The home team threatened again in the seventh, but a groundout kept them from putting up any insurance runs
• Morton kept hope alive with a double in the ninth and eventually advanced to third on a flyout, but consecutive strikeout finished out the game
