Eagles Suffer Non-Conference Defeat To Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Winthrop baseball program fell to Charlotte on the road on Tuesday.
 
The Eagles are 12-20 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Charlotte scored in the first inning for an early lead
  • The 49ers used a two-run homer in the second for a three-run cushion
  • Jonathan Strauss drew a walk in the top of the third, but was stranded there
  • A solo homer in the fifth gave the home team a 4-0 lead
  • An RBI single from the 49ers increased the lead to five
  • Dillon Morton walked in the seventh, but a groundout stranded him
  • Charlotte used the lone Winthrop error of the game to eventually score three insurance runs in the bottom of the frame
  • Spyke doubled in the ninth for the Eagles' lone hit of the evening

Winthrop takes on Gardner-Webb on the road this weekend. First pitch is scheduled for Thursday, Apr. 14 at 6 p.m.
