Rock Hill, S.C. — Winthrop softball rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 6-4 victory over Charleston Southern to capture the weekend series.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Eagles threatened in the bottom of the first inning as Paige Rivas singled down the left field line with one out
- Rivas was sacrificed to second but Isabella Clark grounded out to second to end the inning
- Charleston Southern got a runner in scoring position in the top of the third
- Westin Jones drew a two out walk and then stole second but Reese Basinger got Gracie Prince to foul out to left field to end the top half
- In the bottom of the third, Macy McCall hit a solo home run to right field with two outs for a 1-0 lead
- The Buccaneers quickly tied it in the top of the fourth as Ashley Meckley led off the inning with a homer to left center
- The Bucs then loaded the bases with one out after a single up the middle by Madison Koger
- Basinger struck out the next batter and then got a ground out to end the threat to keep the game tied
- Kaitlyn Tucker and Vianna Rodriguez had back-to-back singles to lead off the bottom of the fourth, but were left stranded
- Eagles capitalized in the fifth inning as Lauren King drew a leadoff walk to get things going
- Winthrop eventually loaded the bases on a bunt single by Paige Rivas
- Tucker stepped in and ripped a shot to left off the wall, scoring pinch-runner Peyton Rivas and Courtney Cygan for a 3-1 lead
- Charleston Southern took back the lead in the top of the sixth inning when Koger hit a three-run homer to center to go ahead 4-3
- Eagles regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth as Bailey Warren doubled off the left field wall with one out
- King then reached on an error to put runners at first and second
- Cygan reached on an infield single but the late throw was off the mark and skipped past the first baseman
- Warren moved to third and then raced home when the ball squirted away at first to tie the game at 4-4
- McCall followed with a single to left to score King and put the Eagles in front 5-4
- Tucker later added a sacrifice fly for a multiple-run lead
- Bella Roy came in to close out the seventh for her first save of the season
EXTRA BASES
- Eagles captured their second conference series of the season and sit all alone in 5th in the Big South standings, one game ahead of Charleston Southern and two games in front of Gardner-Webb and Radford
- With the two-run double in the fifth inning, Tucker set a new single-season record for RBI with 16 (had 15 as a freshman last year)
- The double is the sixth of the year for Tucker which matches her freshman total
- With two hits on the day McCall pushed her conference only batting average to .404 and has 12 runs scored in 15 games
- McCall scored another run to push her career total to 93 as she played in her collegiate 157th game
- The win on Sunday gave head coach Windy Thees her 485th collegiate victory

Winthrop will be in action on Wednesday, Apr. 13 when it hosts the College of Charleston in a non-conference doubleheader with the first game slated for 4 p.m.
