Back And Forth Battle Sees Eagles' Win Streak Come To An End

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop baseball program fell to Charleston Southern in a back and forth contest at the Winthrop Ballpark Sunday afternoon.
 
The Eagles are 12-19 (6-3 Big South).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Charleston Southern used back to back singles to take an early lead and tacked on a third run on a sacrifice fly
  • Winthrop battled back in the same frame on a two-run double from Morton and a sacrifice fly from Joey Tepper
  • Morton's sacrifice fly in the third inning tied the game at three
  • Fewell's double gave the Eagles the lead before Jonathan Strauss singled him home to a two-run lead
  • The Buccaneers notched one run in each of the next two innings to tie the game once again
  • In the sixth, a fielding error and a Ty Hooks double plated three runs for an 8-5 lead
  • Charleston Southern came back with a two-run double in the eighth to cut the lead to one
  • Another throwing error and a bases-loaded walk pushed the Winthrop lead to 10-7
  • The Buccaneers used a solo home run and a two-run double to push the game into extra innings
  • A run-scoring double and a bases-clearing double gave the visitors a 14-10 lead
  • Morton doubled Spyke home to keep the game going, but Winthrop was unable to capitalize any further
