Eagles Hold On For Thrilling Victory Over Radford

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop baseball program defeated Radford at the Winthrop Ballpark Friday evening.
 
The Eagles are 7-18 (2-2 Big South).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Radford had runners on second and third in the top of the first inning, but a groundout ended the threat
  • Ty Hooks walked to begin the bottom of the frame, but a fielder's choice and a failed steal attempt ended the inning
  • The Highlanders' first batter of the third singled and then stole second before three straight outs ended the top half of the inning
  • Winthrop made a dent in the fourth inning as Hannum singled to center field and advanced to second on a balk
  • Later, a Spyke single to center field scored Hannum for the first run of the night
  • The sixth inning saw Radford threaten once again, but with runners on second and third, a groundout halted their momentum
  • The Eagles came back with two runs in the bottom of the frame as Tepper hit a single to left field
  • A bases-loaded walk saw Winthrop take a four-run lead before a Christopher double brought in two more
  • Winthrop tacked on another run in the seventh on an RBI groundout
  • The Highlanders put up two runs in the ninth on a single to deep left field and tacked on two more on a double
  • Radford sliced the lead to one run on another two-run single
