Box Score 2 Huntington, W.Va. — Winthrop softball split on it second day of the Thundering Herd Round Robin with a 6-1 win over IPFW and 6-0 loss at Marshall, Saturday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
vs. IPFW
- Eagles jumped on the Mastadons in the top of the first as Macy McCall led things off with a double to right
- Paige Rivas followed with a triple to right center for the 1-0 lead
- Rivas then scored on a fielding error as Lauren Hutcherson was safe at first
- Bailey Warren followed with a single and two batters later both runners moved over to second and third
- Lauren King stepped in and doubled to left center, scoring both runs for a 4-0 lead
- In the fourth inning Rivas plated another run with an RBI ground out followed by a Hutcherson RBI single for a 6-0 lead
- Sydney Boulware tossed another complete game allowing one run on two hits with two walks and a career-high 14 strikeouts
at Marshall
- Eagles threatened in the first inning as Paige Rivas singled and then advanced to second on a Hutcherson strikeout but King grounded out to second to end the inning
- Marshall grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the first on a two-run single by Bub Feringa
- The Thundering Herd then added four more runs in the second highlighted by a two-run double by Laurn Love
- The Eagles went 1-2-3 from in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th inning when pinch-hitter Elle McGalliard walked to lead off the 5th
- Kaitlyn Tucker came back in the game to replace McGalliard on the bases and after a Courtney Cygan strikeout was called out for leaving the base early
- Immediately after that Mackenzie Smith doubled to left but was stranded
- Bella Roy suffered the loss after allowing six runs on four hits with four walks and one strikeout in 2.1 innings
- Marshall's Sydney Nester tossed a complete game shutout allowing two hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts
EXTRA BASES
- Boulware set a new career-high in strikeouts with 14, beating her previous best of nine
- Over her last 15.0 innings pitched she's struck out 28 with three walks
- It is the most strikeouts by a Winthrop pitcher since Madyson Watson had 17 on Feb. 28, 2021 against Mount St. Mary's
- McCall extended hers streak of reaching base to 14 in a row before it came to an end against Marshall
- Paige Rivas extended her hitting streak to a eight games, the longest by an Eagle this season
- Winthrop was 12-for-23 with runners in scoring position (.522) on the day
