CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Winthrop lacrosse program started well against undefeated Davidson, but was unable to keep up and fell to the Wildcats 20-9.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Davidson scored the opening goal of the match less than four minutes in for the early lead
• Alyssa Angelo matched that less than two minutes later with her first score of the afternoon
• The teams went back and forth again as Jamira Mashore tied the game at two goals apiece on an assist from Katie Witmer
• The Wildcats scored the next four goals to stretch the lead to 6-2
• Back-to-back scores from Lauren Asher and Angelo sliced the lead in half
• Davidson scored four of the next give goals and took a five-goal lead into the intermission
• The Wildcats quickly extended their lead to 12-5 early in the third period
• Savanah Paton scored twice in less than two minutes to cut the lead back to five
• Both teams traded scores, but then Davidson netted six in a row for a 19-8 lead.
• Angelo scored her third goal of the day for the Eagles' ninth goal before the Wildcats scored one more to provide the final margin
