WINTHROP AT A GLANCE
Winthrop is coming off a 7-8 (3-3 Big South) record in 2021. The Eagles welcomed seven newcomers to the squad; the newcomers include six freshmen and sophomore transfer
Krystal Beebe from Division II Florida Southern.
Winthrop had two players named to the preseason Big South all-conference team as
Kimora Bailey was named preseason defensive player of the year and midfielder
Alyssa Angelo was also honored.
The Eagles were ranked fifth in the Big South preseason poll and are in their first season under new leadership as head coach
Kara Concheck was named to the post in January.
Winthrop traveled to East Carolina for their season opener and came away with a 17-7 loss, although the Eagles did take an early 3-1 lead. The Eagles then took on Kennesaw State on the road and took a 14-8 defeat. Winthrop then traveled to Stetson and was competitive in a 15-13 loss before a 20-9 netural-site loss to Davidson. The Eagles then won their first game of the season against Youngstown State at Eagle Field leading into a loss against Virginia Tech.
Winthrop headed to Conway, S.C. for a non-conference matchup against Coastal Carolina before last week's matchup with Elon. The Eagles now begin a nine-game conference slate against Gardner-Webb.
SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB
The Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs are 4-4. Last time out, they traveled to Kennesaw State, where the Owls dealt them an 18-10 defeat.
ALL-TIME AGAINST GARDNER-WEBB
Wednesday's matchup is the eighth all-time against the Runnin' Bulldogs, with Winthrop having won the previous seven matchups. The teams last played on Apr. 24, 2021 with the Eagles winning 21-11.
