Eagles Drop Series To James Madison

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop baseball program fell to James Madison in a back and forth game inside the Winthrop Ballpark Sunday afternoon.
 
The Eagles are 5-13 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • JMU got on the board in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead
  • The Dukes scored two more runs in the second on two RBI singles
  • Winthrop came back strong in the bottom of the frame with four runs
  • Robby Taul's sacrifice fly got the Eagles on the board
  • Later, Hunter Christopher singled to drive in another run
  • Szvetitz later tripled down the right field line, driving in two to give Winthrop a one-run lead
  • The Eagles scored again in the fifth as Morton drove in Joey Tepper
  • In the top of the eighth, JMU used three Winthrop errors to take a 6-5 lead
  • The Dukes tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the ninth
  • Winthrop loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning and walked in a run
  • Robby Taul edged the Eagles closer with a sacrifice fly before Winthrop pulled even on a passed ball
  • Both teams then had a scoreless tenth inning
  • James Madison took the lead in the 11th on a two-run single and held on for the victory
