Rock Hill, S.C. — Winthrop softball split a doubleheader with Radford taking the first game 3-0 before falling in the nightcap 11-6. Saturday afternoon at Terry Field.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
- The opening game was highlighted by a dominating performance in the circle by freshman Reese Basinger
- Basinger gave up a double to the first batter of the game and proceeded to retire the next 21 batters
- Winthrop got all it needed in the 5th inning, managing three runs
- Macy McCall singled with one away and moved to second on a bunt single by Paige Rivas
- Bailey Warren then walked to load the bases
- Lauren Hutcherson hit a grounder to second that was booted and all the runners were safe as McCall scored
- Lauren King was hit by a pitch to score Rivas and then Warren scored on sacrifice fly from Mackenzie Smith
Game 2
- Eagles fell behind 2-0 in the first as Hannah Morris had an RBI double and Abby Wilson an RBI single
- Winthrop cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first as McCall walked, stole second and then scored on a single to center by Rivas
- Radford came back with a three-run homer in the top of the second by Cori McMillan
- Winthrop was within 5-3 in the third inning as Hutcherson scored McCall on an groundout to short
- Then King reached on an error, allowing Rivas to score
- Winthrop trail 11-3 heading to the bottom of the seventh and didn't go away without a fight
- Rivas reached on an error to lead off and then Warren singled on a grounder between the hole on the left side
- Hutcherson hit a grounder that the shortstop fielded and tried to make a throw to third for a force out but Rivas was safe
- Lauren Daniels stood in and delivered a single on the first pitch to left center to score two runs
- Kaitlyn Tucker hit a fly ball into foul territory down the right side as the Radford player made a diving catch and Hutcherson hustled home to score on the play
EXTRA BASES
- The win in game one made the Eagles 4-0 in league for the first time since 2009, which is also the last time the Eagles opened 4-1
- Paige Rivas extended her streak of reaching base to 15 straight, while McCall has the second-best current streak at six in a row
- The 10 strikeouts for Basinger were a career-high, which was previously eight against North Carolina A&T on Mar. 13
