ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Winthrop baseball program defeated the visiting James Madison Dukes Friday evening at the Winthrop Ballpark.

How it Happened

• Both teams were held scoreless early as Gainey and Showalter both pitched extremely well
• The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the sixth as Szvetitz singled to left field to score Robby Taul
• Spyke doubled right afterwards and scored Szvetitz and Ty Hooks
• After a pitching change for the Dukes, Joey Tepper singled to center field to score Spyke
• James Madison had two men on base in the top of the eighth, but they were stranded on a flyout
• Winthrop closed out the game and earned their first shutout victory of the season
