Eagles Fall To Penn In Sunday Doubleheader

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Winthrop baseball program lost both games of the doubleheader Sunday afternoon against Pennsylvania at the Winthrop Ballpark.
 
Game 1:

How it Happened
  • In the bottom of the 1st, Winthrop threatened by loading the bases but was not able to score
  • After multiple hits in the top of 2nd, the Quakers opened the scoring up taking the lead 4-0.
  • The Quakers would score another run in the top of the 3rd to make the score 5-0.
  • After scoreless 4th and 5th innings, the Quakers would score 1 run each in the top of the 6th and 7th innings to extend their lead to 7-0.
  • In the bottom of the 7th, a double from Ty Hooks would score a run to cut the lead 7-1.
  • The Eagles would strike again with a Jack Spyke single to make the score 7-2 heading into the 8th inning
  • In the top of the 8th, the Quakers would hit a 3 run home run to provide the final margin of 10-2

How it Happened
  • The Eagles were able to get 2 runners on in the bottom of the third but were unable to bring any runs across
  • After going scoreless through the first 4 frames, the Quakers would score a run in the top of the 5th to make the score 1-0
  • In the top of the 7th, the Quakers would score again extending their lead to 2-0
  • In the bottom of the 7th, the Eagles would get on the board with a Sacrifice fly from Jonathan Strauss but were unable to complete the comeback making the final margin 2-1

Winthrop will go on to the road to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on the Wofford Terriers on Wednesday, Mar. 16 at 6 p.m.
