WALK OFF!!! Eagles Win 11-10 Over Penn Friday Night

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop baseball scored seven runs over the final two innings to complete a comeback in walk-off fashion, Friday evening at the Winthrop Ballpark.

How it Happened
  • In the top of the first, Penn started off the scoring with a 2-run homer to left field.
  • The Eagles responded with two singles in the bottom of the frame but were unable to push across any runs
  • In the top of the 5th, Penn added another two-run homer this time to right field making the score 4-0
  • The Eagles threatened to score in the bottom of the fifth by loading the bases but no runs were driven in
  • In the bottom of the sixth, a double from Ty Hooks scored a run for the Eagles to make the margin 4-1
  • After singles from Joseph Szvetitz and Jonathan Strauss, the Eagles scored three more runs to tie the game 4-4 heading into the seventh
  • Penn responded with a grand slam in the top of the seventh to take the lead back at 8-4
  • In the top of the eighth, the Quakers scored two more runs to extend their lead to 10-4
  • A Dillon Morton triple scored a run to start a big offensive inning in the bottom of the eighth
  • The Eagles went on to score four more runs off of three singles to make the score 10-9 going into the ninth inning
  • In the bottom of the ninth, Morton hit a two-run walk-off homer

The series will skip play on Saturday due to heavy rains in the forecast as the teams will finish the series with a doubleheader on Sunday, Mar. 13 beginning at 11 a.m.
