BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Winthrop women's basketball program fell to Gardner-Webb Saturday afternoon to close their 2022 regular season.

How it Happened
First Quarter | Gardner-Webb started off well and took an early 5-2 lead. The Runnin' Bulldogs then went on an 8-0 run for a 13-2 lead before the Eagles used an and-one from
Sierra Hunter and a
J'Mani Ingram layup, but Gardner-Webb went on another 8-0 run for a commanding 21-7 lead. Winthrop scored the last six points of the period to get within eight.
Second Quarter | The Eagles scored four points out of the break to close within two possessions, but the teams see-sawed back and forth from there. A three pointer from
Luka Malinka sliced the lead to two, although the Runnin' Bulldogs used a jumper with 34 seconds left to take a four-point lead into the break.
Third Quarter | The Runnin' Bulldogs came out of the locker room with a strong effort and took a 12-point lead with six and a half minutes to play. The home team continued to pour it on and used a three pointer with 2:12 left to take a 17-point lead and kept the same margin into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter | The home team scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to break the game open and also scored the final ten points of the contest to provide the final margin.

Winthrop heads into the Big South tournament next week and will take on eighth-seeded Presbyterian on Tuesday, Mar. 1 at 12 p.m. inside the Bojangles Coliseum.
