St. George, Utah — Winthrop dropped its first game of the Dixie State Tournament as it fell 11-3 to Weber State, Friday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Macy McCall gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead with a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the 1st
- Weber State grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second inning when Lauren Hoe hit a two-run homer to left
- Wildcats took advantage of a fielding error with two outs and the next batter singled up the middle for a 3-1 lead
- Two batters later Gian Memoli signled to right center to plate two more for a 5-1 advantage
- Kaitlyn Tucker led off the third with a homerun to center
- Then Ashton Vanhouse followed with a walk and the stole second
- After moving to third on a wild pitch she scored on a throwing error on a Paige Rivas grounder to pull within 5-3
- Rivas stole second followed by a Lauren King walk but Lauren Daniels and Lauren Hutcherson were unable to plate Rivas in scoring position
- Weber State took a 9-3 lead on a grand slam down the left field line from Hoe
- Wildcats added two more in the fifth
EXTRA BASES
- King has now reached safely in eight straight games while McCall has a streak of seven straight
- McCall has 70 stolen bases in her career and is closing in on 100 career runs with (94)
- McCall also moved into a tied for 3rd on the Winthrop all-time stolen base list, now trailing the all-time leader by 17 (Charlene Smith, 71)
ON DECK
Winthrop will play two on Saturday as they'll face Utah Valley at 5 p.m. followed by a 7:30 p.m. matchup with host Dixie State.
