Late Surge Not Enough As Lacrosse Falls To Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Winthrop lacrosse program made a late rally Thursday afternoon in Kennesaw, but it wasn't enough as the Kennesaw State Owls took the contest 14-8. With the loss, the Eagles drop to 0-2 on the year.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles scored the opening goal as Alyssa Angelo buried a ball in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead
  • Kennesaw State scored the next 12 goals of the contest over a 19-minute stretch
  • Molly Dankowski scored two unassisted goals, including one with eight seconds to play until the half, closing the gap to 12-3
  • The Owls scored halfway through the period for the only score of the quarter, giving themselves a double-digit lead in the process
  • From the 10:47 mark of the fourth quarter until the 5:30 mark, Winthrop netted five consecutive goals to cut the deficit to five
  • Dankowski was responsible for three of those scores
  • Kennesaw scored an unassisted goal for the final score of the contest 
NOTABLES
  • Dankowski led the Eagles with five goals, one ground ball, and two caused turnovers
  • Kelsey Johnson led the team with four ground balls while Lauren Asher and Jenna Diebert had three
  • Alyssa Angelo and Krystal Beebe each notched four draw controls
  • Johnson recorded double-digit saves for the second consecutive contest as she had 10
