Eagles Take Loss To South Carolina

Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Winthrop baseball program was unable to get much momentum Tuesday afternoon in Columbia as they fell to South Carolina 7-1.
 
The Eagles are 2-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Winthrop got off to an excellent start in the first inning as Luke Hannum walked and Ty Hooks singled, but the Gamecocks retired the next three batters
  • South Carolina took a 1-0 lead on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the frame
  • The Gamecocks used a two-run single in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 3-0
  • Dillon Morton hit a towering home run to right-center field in the top of the fourth to cut into the lead
  • South Carolina came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning
  • The Gamecocks tacked on three more runs over the next four innings as the Eagles were unable to counter

Winthrop heads to Liberty for a three-game series. The teams will play Feb. 25-27.
