ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop women's basketball program started strong, but was unable to sustain their momentum and fell to High Point Monday evening inside the Winthrop Coliseum.

How it Happened
First Quarter | High Point scored the first seven points of the game for an early lead. Winthrop eventually closed within 11-6 on a short shot from
Myra Strickland before the Panthers scored the final six points for a double-digit lead.
Second Quarter | After the visitors hit two free throws for a 13-point lead, the Eagles came roaring back with seven consecutive points. High Point scored five straight for another double-digit lead, but Winthrop refused to go away and went on an 11-0 run to tie the score heading into the locker room.
Third Quarter | The teams see-sawed back and forth early in the third quarter, but the Panthers steadily built their lead to 37-28 with just under five minutes to play. However, Winthrop continued to fight hard and closed within 39-32 at the end of the period.
Fourth Quarter | Although the Eagles closed within five early in the quarter, it just wasn't enough. A three pointer from High Point extended the lead to 18 and Winthrop couldn't get closer than 15 the rest of the way.
