ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Winthrop women's basketball program had a strong first half Saturday, but was unable to keep up and fell to Longwood inside the Winthrop Coliseum.

How it Happened
First Quarter | The Lancers went on an 11-0 run to open the contest.
Myra Strickland then scored five of the next seven points to cut into the lead and continued to play well, closing within 16-10 on two
Sydney Hunter free throws. After Longwood hit two free throws of their own, Winthrop went on a 5-0 run to close the period and get within three points.
Second Quarter | The visitors scored the first eight points of the second quarter to expand their lead to nine points at 24-15. After that, both teams went back and forth with the homestanding Eagles drawing within eight at the break on a
Luka Malinka three pointer and a
Sierra Hunter jumper.
Third Quarter | Longwood went on a 15-0 run to open the third period as the Lancers completely broke the game open. Winthrop chipped away, however, as two
Caroline De Klauman free throws, a
J'Mani Ingram jumper, a De Klauman layup, and a
Leonor Paisana three pointer cut the lead to 14. Longwood got the margin back to 20 on a short jumper and took an eighteen-point lead into the final stanza on a score with five seconds left.
Fourth Quarter | Both teams scored evenly before a Strickland free throw slashed the lead to 12 with just less than eight minutes on the clock. A 10-2 run from the Lancers effectively ended the game as they stretched their lead back to 20, and the lead grew to as big as 26 points before four Malinka free throws provided the final margin.
