Game Recap
- Christopher Cushing headed home a corner by Kade McKenzie as he made a run to the near post and headed the ball into the lower left corner for his first collegiate goal
- In the 24th minute Longwood was awarded a penalty as Gareth Shaw guessed the right way and just tipped the ball enough as it pinged off the post to save the penalty effort from Renan Santos
- The ball then bounced across the goal mouth as Ethan Stevenson ran on and tried to follow with a shot into the open net but Shaw raced across to make the save and the ball was cleared
- Longwood had a 9-0 advantage in shots in the second half
- The Eagles were able to get forward, but the buildup never resulted in a shot
- Freshman Gareth Shaw stood tall all game and made three saves to preserve the team's first win of the season
Notables
- Shaw earned the win and the shutout in his first collegiate contest
- It was the first shutout by the Eagle since Nov. 7, 2021 in the Big South quarterfinals with a 3-0 win over Presbyterian College
- Cushing was involved in the game-winner of that shutout win over PC with an assist
- The assist for McKenzie was his second of the season, giving him the team lead this season
Looking Ahead
Eagles are back home on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 2:30 p.m. when they host Longwood. The game is part of a doubleheader with the women's soccer team that will host Gardner-Webb at 12 p.m.
