- The difference in the game came in the 6th minute when Alaina McKnight scored off a corner kick
- Izzy Giarrizzi was tested just 1:17 into the game but made the save on the shot to the lower left corner
- Giarrizzi made another save in the 26th minute on a shot to the upper right corner
- Winthrop's Lauren Kelly had a chance in the 32nd minute but her shot was saved by Cora Brendle
- Kelly had another chance in the 59th minute as her shot was low but right at Brendle who held on for the save
- Giarrizzi made four more shots over the final 30 minutes of the game to keep it a one goal match
Notables
- USC Upstate finished with a 16-6 advantage in shots and 7-3 in shots on goal
- Giarrizzi finished with six saves while Brendle finished with three
- This was the first one-goal match between the two teams since the Eagles won 2-1 at home in 2017 and just the third one-goal game in nine meetings all-time
