Game Recap
  • Eagles had the first scoring threat of the day as they were awarded a penalty in the 17th minute
  • After a free kick into the box that was headed wide, Sean Green beat goalkeeper Luca Bulfon to the ball and then Bulfon went through the back of Green and the whistle was blown
  • Nick Guido stepped in and placed a shot to the lower left corner as Bulfon made a diving save, just tipping the ball enough to hit the post and was then cleared away
  • Upstate brought some offensive pressure midway through the half with four corners in the span of five minutes but unable to create a scoring threat
  • In the 28th minute the Eagles had another great opportunity as Kade McKenzie received a pass just inside the 18, turned and fired a shot toward the left corner that was saved by Bulfon and on the rebound Stefan Sildor laced a shot on frame that was deflected wide by an Upstate defender
  • Following a turnover in the back third by the Eagles, Brody Williams received a pass and then cut back to his right foot for a shot on frame but Gareth Shaw was in perfect possession and handled the shot for his first save of the game
  • The Eagles finally broke through in the 67th minute as Guido received a pass and won the ball as a defender closed in for a tackle
  • Guido then dribbled into the box, and beat a defender off the dribble and slotted a shot into the right corner for the lead
  • A defensive lapse following the goal allowed USC Upstate to tie the match as Jeremy Montero scored off a pass from Andrin Zumbuhl just 14 seconds after the Winthrop goal
  • In the 78th minute, Kasper Jorgensen's header at the back post off a corner bounced toward the near post but Shaw was in position to handle the save
  • In the 80th minute, Grayson Woodard saved a long ball by Aiden Williams from going out and then headed to goal with space
  • Woodard dribbled into the box, beat a defender off the dribble to his left and then fired a shot to the lower right corner that was turned away by a kick save from Bulfon
  • Winthrop had a great chance to take the lead late as Christopher Cushing slipped a pass inside the box behind the defense as McKenzie ran on and his attempt to curl it into the left corner as Bulfon closed in just missed wide
  • As the Eagles pressed late looking for a win Guido got free in the box again and as he ran onto a pass he fired a shot to the lower left corner at the near post but Bulfon was in position to make the save
