Women's Soccer Earns 1-0 Win At Presbyterian College Saturday Night

Clinton, S.C. – Hannah Taylor's first half goal was enough as Winthrop captured a 1-0 road win over Presbyterian College, Saturday evening in Big South Conference women's soccer action.

Game Recap
  • Katy Feskorn nearly put the Eagles in front the 16th minute when she received a pass from Chela Paris near the edge of the 18 and struck a shot first time off the crossbar and out
  • In the 30th minute, Feskorn split the PC defense with a pass that found Hannah Taylor wide open near the penalty spot as she hit a shot first time into the back of the net
  • With 1:39 to play in the half Alynne Paim's free kick toward the top right corner was saved by Izzy Giarrizzi to keep the Eagles in front before halftime
  • Eagles had a good chance to double their lead in the 51st minute when Erika Brown ran onto a pass in the box and from an angle tried to slip a shot into the far corner but Kelly Hall made the diving save
  • PC looked to equalize in the 66th minute as Caitlin Murphy collected a long ball, dribbled her way toward the 18 and let a shot fly but Giarrizzi made the diving save to her left
  • In the 78th minute a PC corner curled to the back post as Jenae Massey headed it off the line and the ball deflected off a teammate, dropping down in front of goal as Giarrizzi pounced on it as a PC player approached

Notables
  • PC finished with an 18-8 advantage in total shots and 6-4 edge in shots on goal
  • Blue Hose finished with six corners while the Eagles had four
  • Giarrizzi finished with six saves in the match for her 3rd shutout of the season
  • This was the 4th shutout of the year for the Eagles and all four have come on the road

Looking Ahead
Winthrop returns home for a conference matchup with High Point on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. The game was originally scheduled on Oct. 12 but postponed due to inclement weather.
