ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop got off to a slow start and Gardner-Webb took advantage as the Runnin' Bulldogs had an early double-digit lead and never looked back in cruising to a road Big South victory over the Eagles.

How it Happened
First Quarter |
Caroline De Klauman was fouled under the basket and converted both free throws before Gardner-Webb netted their first three pointer of the contest.
Noble Tsumas responded with a layup, but the Runnin' Bulldogs went on an 11-0 run to seize a double-digit lead.
Myra Strickland's free throw temporarily stemmed the bleeding before Gardner-Webb scored 12 of the last 13 points of the period for a 24-6 lead heading into the second stanza.
Second Quarter | The Runnin' Bulldogs extended their lead to 20 with the opening bucket of the second period and kept the twenty-point lead in the early going. A 5-0 run from the homestanding Eagles sliced the lead to 15 points halfway through the period, but the Runnin' Bulldogs continued to play well and took the lead back up to twenty with a Lauren Bevis three pointer. The teams then traded baskets before heading into the locker room.
Third Quarter | Gardner-Webb scored the first points of the third quarter before
Leonor Paisana made a layup to cut the lead back to 20. The Runnin' Bulldogs refused to let up and extended the lead to 26 on a Micahla Funderburk three pointer, attaining their largest lead of the afternoon in the process. The teams traded baskets once again before Strickland's three pointer just before the third quarter buzzer slashed the lead to 20 once again.
Fourth Quarter | Two Strickland free throws and a
Noble Tsumas jumper quickly cut the lead to 16, but a fast break layup from Sarah Matthews gave the Runnin' Bulldogs a 61-41 advantage with eight minutes to play. Two baskets and a
J'Mani Ingram free throw got Winthrop within eighteen points at 64-46, but Gardner-Webb scored 11 of the last 16 points of the contest to provide the final margin.
