Rock Hill, S.C.— Winthrop men's soccer is back in action Tuesday night after an nine day break as it welcomes Mercer to Eagle Field.
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS MERCER
Winthrop has lost two straight to Mercer, including the Bears last trip to Rock Hill in 2018 (2-0). This is the 10
th meeting all-time and the series is even at 4-4-1. Winthrop's last win over Mercer came in 2016 in Spartanburg, S.C. in a 2-0 victory.
FOOT NOTES
- Eagles have dropped two straight and coming off a 4-2 home loss to Georgia State
- Winthrop ranks 3rd in the Big South in scoring at 2.0 goals per game, which is tied for 37th nationally
- Bryant Jimenez-Pearce ranks 4th in the conference in points (7) and is second in points per game (1.40)
- Jimenez-Pearce also ranks 2nd assists (3) and assists per game (.60)
- Jimenez-Pearce, Jonathan Foster and Brigham Larsen each lead the team two goals and are tied for 6th in the league
- This game marks the 925th in the history of the program with 449 wins all-time
- Daniel Ridenhour is in his sixth season as the head coach of the Eagles after serving the previous 12 seasons as an associate/assistant coach
ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Sean Green's goal on the kickoff following the Stetson goal is ranked in the Top 5 all-time at the NCAA D1 level for the fastest consecutive goals by opposing teams. In the spring of 2021, Winthrop scored 12 seconds into the game at South Carolina as
Jonathan Foster netted one of the quickest goals in program history.
BIG SOUTH AWARDS
Brigham Larsen – Freshman of the Week
- Scored two second half goals in the 3-1 win over Furman that included the game-winner in the 58th minute
- Continuing to apply pressure offensively, Larsen added an insurance goal in the 89th minute
LOOKING AHEAD
Winthrop will return home on Saturday, Oct. 2 for its Big South Conference Opener against UNC Asheville at 5 p.m.
