• Izzy Giarrizzi made a career-high eight saves to earn her first collegiate shutout
• This will be the 339^th game in Winthrop women's soccer program history
• Spencer Smith is in his 12^th season as head coach and is coaching in his 198^th game for the Eagles
• Smith is currently fifth all-time in Big South history for victories

TEAM CAPTAINS
Senior's Laurin Uptegrove and Bella Hovis have been named team captains for the 2021 season. Both Uptegrove (43 career games) and Hovis (42 career games) have been regulars either off the bench or in the starting lineup in their first three seasons.

BIG SOUTH AWARDS
Jessica Gengler – Defensive Player of the Week

• Scored the game-winning goal (golden goal) in the 3-2 win over Alabama State in the season opener
• Played outside back in the game as she netted her first collegiate goal

Emma Smith – Freshman of the Week

• Came off the bench to score the team's second goal for a 2-0 lead
• Played a total of 40 minutes in the game, including starting the second half

DOUBLEHEADER
The women's team will face Longwood at 1 p.m. and then the men's soccer team will take on Georgia State at 5 p.m. as part of a soccer doubleheader at Eagle Field on Saturday.
