Rock Hill, S.C.— For the second straight game Winthrop men's soccer will take on one of the top teams in the Southern Conference when it hosts UNC Greensboro Saturday evening.
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS UNC GREENSBORO
Winthrop and UNC Greensboro meet for the 13
th time and the first time since 2013. Four of the meetings came in the early-to-mid 90's when the Spartans were also a member of the Big South Conference. UNCG owns the all-time series 10-2 but the Eagles have won the last two meetings. The last time these two teams met Max Hasenstab netted a goal in the 89
th minute. The last three meetings in the series have all been decided by a single goal.
FOOT NOTES
- Eagles bounced back from the first loss of the season with a 3-1 win at Furman on Monday
- Started the season with three straight road games, gaining wins at Stetson and Furman
- Freshman Brigham Larsen netted two second half goals to secure the win over the Paladins
- Larsen created several scoring opportunities for the Eagles in the second half and became the first freshman since the 2019 season to score two goals in a contest
- Larsen now leads the team with four points and is tied with teammate Bryant Jimenez-Pearce for 6th in the Big South in scoring (1.33 points per game)
- Jimenez-Pearce is still tied for first in the league with two assists
- As a team the Eagles are second in the league in scoring at 2.67 goals (Radford first at 5.50)
- After facing the team voted to finish second in the Southern Conference (Furman) on Monday, the Eagles take on the favorite and defending champion UNCG within a six-day period
- This is the second of three Southern Conference opponents the Eagles play within a four-game span
- This game marks the 923nd in the history of the program with 449 wins all-time
- Daniel Ridenhour is in his sixth season as the head coach of the Eagles after serving the previous 12 seasons as an associate/assistant coach

Sean Green's goal on the kickoff following the Stetson goal is ranked in the Top 5 all-time at the NCAA D1 level for the fastest consecutive goals by opposing teams. In the spring of 2021, Winthrop scored 12 seconds into the game at South Carolina as
Jonathan Foster netted one of the quickest goals in program history.
