ROCK HILL, S.C. – Winthrop baseball fell to Presbyterian Thursday, 5-2.
With the loss, the Eagles have been eliminated from Big South Conference Tournament contention.
Winthrop was backed by six strong innings from
Tyler Jones, giving up just two runs and striking out four.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 2-0 lead. Tyler Baker came home on a passed ball, while Ty Hooks grounded into a double play later in the inning bring Joe McNamara home.
- The Blue Hose responded by putting up two runs of their own in the top of the 4th to tie the game up at two.
- Both sides were held scoreless after that, going into the 9th inning all tied up.
- Dalton Mims took over for Tyler Jones in the top of the 7th and stayed in to pitch the final inning.
- Mims gave up back-to-back solo home runs to lead off the 9th, allowing Presbyterian to take a 4-2 lead.
- Jason Crumley came in in relief. Presbyterian scored one final run off a deep fly ball to take a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the 9th.
- The Eagles went down in order, falling Tuesday night, 5-2.

The Eagles and Blue Hose will close out the regular season with a twin bill Friday afternoon beginning at 12 p.m. Prior to the season finale, Winthrop baseball will recognize the graduating classes of 2020 and 2021.
