Eagles Just Fall Short Against Radford Wednesday Afternoon

RADFORD, V.A. – With 13 seconds remaining, Radford's Lindsay Carroll scored to halt Winthrop's comeback attempt and win the contest, 10-9. The Eagles fall to 4-6 overall, with a 2-2 record against Big South opponents.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • McKenna Blick got the scoring underway with a shot four minutes into the contest to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • Alyssa Angelo found the back of the net to go ahead by a pair of goals.
  • Lindsay Carroll got the Highlanders on the board with a goal at the 20:47 mark to cut Winthrop's lead in half, 2-1.
  • Radford took their first lead of the contest with back-to-back goals from Ashlyn Grogan and Ava Goeller, 3-2.
  • Bianca Tedesco tied things up at three with her 14th goal of the season at the 15:37 mark.
  • Radford regained a one-goal lead with a man-up goal off the stick of Jessica Diorio, 4-3.
  • Lauren Asher got in on the fun and scored her 13th goal of the season to tie things up at four with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half.
  • The Highlanders ended the half on a 3-0 run, taking a 7-4 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • Grace Gleason wasted no time getting Radford on the board in the second half, taking an 8-4 lead less than two minutes into the half.
  • Molly Dankowski was fouled and drilled her free position attempt, cutting into Radford's lead, 8-5.
  • Savanah Paton would follow that up with a free position goal of her own, making it a two-goal game, 8-6.
  • Following two wide attempts, Margaret Gleason finally found the back of the net for the Highlanders, pulling ahead 9-6.
  • The Eagles went on a 3-0 run, capped off by a game-tying goal from Olivia Deaver to make it a 9-9 contest with 1:07 remaining.
  • Lindsay Carroll was granted a free position attempt with 13 seconds remaining; she converted on the shot, which would ultimately win the contest, 10-9.
 NOTABLES
  • Winthrop had seven different goal scorers, with Lauren Asher recording the only multi-goal game for the Eagles with three. That was also a game-high.
  • Sara McGuire made 10 saves, on 10 goals against with a .500 save percentage in the contest.
  • Alyssa Angelo not only scored a goal, but was dominant on the defensive end, being credited with four caused turnovers.
  • Olivia Deaver had three caused turnovers and picked up three ground balls.
  • Kimora Bailey led the way on the draw control, winning six.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles will stay on the road this weekend when they travel to High Point on Saturday, April 10. Opening draw against the Panthers is scheduled for 1 p.m.
