HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Eagles fell Saturday afternoon to the High Point Panthers, 17-11, behind a career-high five goals from McKenna Blick.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lauren Morris got the scoring underway with a shot early in the contest, to put the Eagles up 1-0.
High Point responded with a 4-0 run to take a 4-1 lead over the Eagles.
McKenna Blick cut High Point's lead in half with a goal at the 15:24 mark to make it a 4-2 game.
The Panthers went on another 4-0 run to take an 8-2 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Lauren Asher scored her first goal of the game, 16th of the season, to get the Eagles on the board in the second half, 8-3.
Ellie Dutton had the next goal, the first of her collegiate career, to make it an 8-4 game.
High Point responded with three consecutive goals of their own to regain a seven-goal edge, 11-4.
Winthrop went on a 3-0 run to cut into High Points lead, 11-7.
A 4-0 burst from the home team kept the lead large, 15-7.
McKenna Blick scored the next three goals on her own, making it a five goal game, 15-10.
Lauren Morris would score the final goal of the game with 2:41 remaining on the clock but High Point's lead was too much to come back from. The Eagles fell to the Panthers, 17-11.
NOTABLES
Ellie Dutton scored her first collegiate goal against the Panthers.
The Eagles had three multi-goal scorers, five from McKenna Blick and a pair each for Lauren Asher and Lauren Morris. Dutton and Bianca Tedesco each contributed one goal.
Lauren Asher and McKenna Blick were each credited with two caused turnovers, a game-high for the Eagles.
Asher led the team with five won draw controls, while Molly Dankowski led the squad by picking up four ground balls.
Sara McGuire made 13 saves on 17 goals against with a .433 save percentage.
High Point's Abby Hormes had a game-high seven goals.
For the Panthers, Sarah Zeto and Jill Rall both saw time in goal. Zeto made six saves, while Rall finished with a .714 save percentage.
