ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Eagles failed to get their bats going Friday night, falling 11-2 to High Point.
Scout McFalls hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to avoid a shutout, his first long ball of the season. Winthrop is now 11-21 overall with a 8-16 mark against conference opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Panthers got things underway with three runs in the first inning, with two runs coming home on an error.
- Both pitchers put together a scoreless second inning.
- Another High Point run came home in the top of the 3rd when Tyler Jones let a pitch get away from him to make it a 4-0 contest.
- Jones struggled with his command, throwing five of Winthrop's eight wild pitches.
- Garrett Gainey came in and pitched 3.2 innings in relief.
- Travis Holt singled to center in the top of the 5th to bring home Brady Pearre to extend their lead, 5-0.
- In the 7th and 9th inning, High Point put up three runs apiece to break the game wide open, 11-0.
- In the bottom of the 9th with Drake Smith aboard, McFalls smashed a two-out, two-run homer over the right field fence, his first of the season, to get the Eagles on the board.
- High Point's lead was too much to come back from and the Eagles would fall to the Panthers, 11-2.
