ROCK HILL, S.C. – Despite home runs off the bat of
Tyler Baker and
Andrew Jenner, the Eagles fell short against the Runnin' Bulldogs on Tuesday evening, 9-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first inning for both sides, Patrick Ferguson hit a home run to right field, taking a 1-0 lead.
- Tyler Baker kept the scoring going, this time for Winthrop, with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 2nd, taking a 3-1 lead.
- Cody Whitten came out after the second inning, finishing with 2.0 IP. Parker Whittle came in in relief.
- In the top of the 3rd, Cam Pearcey flied out deep to right field scoring Ben LaSpaluto cutting Winthrop's lead to one, 3-2.
- With two out, Ty Hooks singled to left and then stole second to find himself in scoring position. Scout McFalls ripped a line drive to right to regain the two-run edge, 4-2 after four innings.
- In the bottom of the 5th, Andrew Jenner ripped the first home run of his collegiate career, a solo shot, to extend Winthrop's lead, 5-2.
- After back-to-back ground outs, Daniel Blair pitched around a two-out triple, striking out the next batter he faced, keeping it a scoreless frame.
- Gardner-Webb's Eric Jones led off the top of the 6th with a single to center and came home when Keiji Parkhurst homered over the right left fence to make it a 5-4 game.
- Looking to extend the lead, Tyler Baker led off the bottom of the 6th with a single on the first pitch he saw and then stole second. He came home on Jenner's ground out to second to give the Eagles a two-run cushion, 6-4.
- Both teams went down quietly in the seventh inning.
- Gardner-Webb put together a five-run 8th inning, highlighted by a lead-off homer from Benino Mendella and a two-out, two-RBI single off the bat of Mitch McLendon to take its first lead of the contest since the 2nd inning, 9-6.
- The Eagles fought back, leading off the inning with back-to-back singles off the bat of Baker and McNamara before Yankle ripped a one-out, RBI single to left to cut Gardner-Webb's lead to two with one inning to play, 9-7.
- Dalton Mims pitched a 1,2,3 9th inning and despite a base runner the Eagles couldn't get any runs across and dropped the contest, 9-7.
ON DECK
The Eagles will host the High Point Panthers in a three-game series on April 30-May 1. The set will open with a single game at 5 p.m. on Friday evening, with Saturday's double header scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. This will be the first time the Eagles and Panthers meet this season after being postponed earlier in the season.
