N. Charleston, S.C. — Ansley Gilreath's RBI single in the top of the 7
th inning completed the Winthrop rally as it opened its series at Charleston Southern with a 4-3 win Friday evening.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Buccaneers took the lead in the bottom of the first as Brooklyn Brewington led off with a single and then with one out stole second
- SeaEnna Satcher came through with a single to right to score Brewington
- Eagles looked to answer right back in the top of the second as Madyson Watson and Taylor Charlton singled back-to-back with one out
- Kaitlyn Tucker popped out to second and then Lauren King struck out swinging to end the threat
- Buccaneers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Erika Cooper led off with a single followed by a bunt single from Sarah Brown
- On the bunt single the runners moved over one base due to an error
- Charleston Southern took the two run lead as Cooper stole home
- Eagles got one back in the fourth inning as Westbrooks led off with a single to right field and moved to second on a ground out
- After advancing to third on a passed ball, Westbrooks scored on a sacrifice fly in foul territory off the bat of Watson
- Eagles threatened again in the fifth inning as King led off with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Reema Patel
- Patel was sacrificed to second and then moved to third with two outs on a Bailey Warren single through the left side
- Westbrooks worked the count full but flew out to centerfield to end the threat
- With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Ashley Meckley homered to left center on the first pitch she saw for a 3-1 advantage
- This time the Eagles did respond as Watson was aboard with a one out single and Charlton stepped in and hit a two-run homer to left center to tie the game at 3-3
- Watson retired the Buccaneers in order in the bottom of the sixth
- Macy McCall was hit to lead off the seventh and moved over on sacrifice by Warren
- After Westbrooks lined out to the pitcher, Ansley Gilreath came through with a single to left as McCall came around to score for a 4-3 lead
- Watson sealed the deal in the bottom half with another 1-2-3 inning
EXTRA BASES
- Charlton moved into a tie with Watson for second on the team with six homeruns and now has 10 in her career
- McCall extended her streak of reaching base to 32 straight games and is closing in on Lisa Kingsmore's single-season mark of 38
- Eagles ended a season-long four-game losing streak and have now won four straight over the Bucs
- Winthrop has now scored the go-ahead run in its final at-bat in its last three games played against the Bucs at CSU Softball Field
- After four strikeouts in the win, Watson now needs just two more strikeouts to reach 400 in her career
