Eagles Pick Up 3-1 Win At USC Upstate Sunday Evening

Spartanburg, S.C.— Winthrop women's soccer picked its first win of the season with a 3-1 victory on the road at USC Upstate, Sunday evening

Game Recap
  • Both teams applied pressure offensively in the early going of the game
  • Eagles broke through in the 32nd minute when Bryn Radvanski, just seconds after checking into the game, collected a flick just as she crossed into the 18 yard box, cut to her right around a defender and slotted the ball home
  • The Eagles continued to apply pressure as Katy Feskorn had a good chance around the edge of the six as her shot was turned away by the goalie
  • It wasn't long after that the Eagles went up 2-0 as Lauryn Jennings service into the box was headed home by Lauren Uptegrove from about eight yards out
  • Winthrop led 2-0 at the half and took a 3-0 lead in the 53rd minute
  • Bella Hovis beat her defender and broke free down the right side of the field, dribbled toward the middle of field closing in on the top of the box and slipped a ball behind the defense as Dee Burnett ran through and finished for her first goal of the season
  • The Spartans scored a few minutes later when Ashley Finn dribbled down the left side, cut back toward the middle and let a shot fly from outside the box as she placed it into the top right corner
  • Winthrop had an 11-9 advantage in shots and corners were even at one each 
Looking Ahead
Winthrop returns home to take on Charleston Southern on Wednesday, Mar. 10 at 6 p.m.
