KENNESAW, G.A. – A late run by the Owls just fell short, giving Winthrop the 9-8 win over the Owls Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 4-4 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half was a low scoring affair.
- The Owls got on the board quickly with back-to-back goals from Camryn Klaus and Emily Napierala.
- Both teams were scoreless for five minutes before the Eagles tied things up at 2 with goals from Savanah Paton and Lauren Asher.
- Siena Gore, KSU's leading goal scorer, got on the board with a shot at the 12:50 mark to lead 3-2.
- Gore found the back of the net once more with less than five minutes remaining to gain a two-goal advantage, 4-2.
- Olivia Deaver recorded her third goal of the season with a shot with three seconds on the clock to make it a one-goal game heading into the locker room at halftime.
- Out of the break, Alyssa Angelo tied things up at four with her 13th goal of the season.
- Siena Gore responded less than a minute later to regain the 5-4 edge.
- Deaver and Angelo recorded their second goals of the game, back-to-back, to give Winthrop it's first lead of the contest, 6-5.
- Angelo netted her third goal of the game to pull ahead, 7-5.
- At the 16:58 mark, Lauren Morris finds McKenna Blick for the goal to take an 8-5 lead.
- Paton ends Winthrop's 5-0 run with a free-position goal with 16:13 to play.
- Three consecutive goals from Siena Gore threatened Winthrop's lead, making it a one-goal contest with a minute to play, 9-8.
- The Eagles would hang on to win the contest.
