Women's Soccer Falls At Longwood Sunday Afternoon

Farmville, Va. — Longwood struck early and Winthrop was unable to recover in a 4-0 loss on the road, Sunday afternoon in Big South Conference women's soccer action.

Game Recap
  • Eagles applied pressure early as Alexandra Perez had a shot blocked that led to a corner and then Bailey Fudala had a shot off the corner that was blocked and cleared
  • Longwood struck early as the Eagles gave the ball away in the back and Kiresten Yuhas dribbled into the box and slotted a shot into the lower right corner for a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute
  • In the 20th minute, Yuhas sent a ball in the box that skimmed off a defenders head and continued into the back right corner of the goal
  • In the 25th minute the Eagles earned another corner as Lauren Uptegrove won a header that bounced in front of goal and into the hands of the keeper Madison Van Dyke
  • Lancers took a 3-0 lead before half when Catharine Forst finished off a cross with a shot into the top left corner
  • In the 73rd minute Uptegrove had the ball facing goal as she struck a shot with good pace but the shot was deflected over the line for a corner
  • In the 78th minute off a corner kick Bell Hovis settled a clear and let a shot go from the top of the box toward the top right corner but Van Dyke was well positioned for the save
  • Isabella Unrath made it 4-0 in the 88th minute when she received a pass that led to a 1v1 and she finished
  • Longwood finished with a 15-7 advantage in shots while the Eagles had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks while each team finished with three saves
 
Looking Ahead
Eagles stay on the road when they travel to Buies Creek, NC on Saturday, Apr. 3 to take on Campbell at 7 p.m.
