Buies Creek, NC — The Winthrop softball team dropped the final game of the series at Campbell with a 4-3 walk-off loss, Sunday afternoon.
Ashley Westbrooks sent a two-run home run over the left field fence to put the Eagles ahead in the sixth, but the Camels prevailed in the bottom of the seventh.

WHAT HAPPENED
- Camels got an early jump in the bottom of the first when Destini England singled, stole second and scored on a hit up the middle by Kayla Fredendall
- In the circle Madyson Watson fanned out the side in the bottom on the second to settle in
- The Eagle bats started to make things happen in the third when Kaitlyn Tucker hit an infield single to the shortstop
- Macy McCall walked with two outs to put two baserunners aboard, but Lauren King lined out to right field to end the threat
- Solid defense and pitching from the Eagles in the third getting three outs on only eight pitches
- Top of the fourth, Watson was aboard after getting hit to lead off the inning
- Ashley Westbrooks doubled to left center two batters later, tying up the game 1-1
- With one out and a runner on first the Camels broke the tie with an Alexa Pagano double to left center for a 2-1 advantage
- McCall singled up the middle and stole second with one out in the top of the fifth to help the Eagles try and get the run back but a line out by King and groundout by Watson ended the inning
- Taylor Charlton singled up the middle to lead off the sixth inning and Reema Patel came in to pinch-run
- Westbrooks came through again with a two-run bomb on a full count, her second hit of the day to put the Eagles ahead 3-2
- Campbell posed a threat putting runners on second and third after a double steal in the sixth, but Watson got out of the jam by freezing the last batter for the third out
- The Camels put up a fight in their last at bat as pinch-hitter Claire Blount singled to left to set the table
- Danielle Northrup came in to pinch-run for Blount and then Diana. Parker was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second with no outs
- After a ground out pushed the runners to second and third, Watson got Bryant on a comebacker for the second out and keeping the runners in place
- England walked it off with a triple to center field, scoring two runs for the win
- Watson suffered the loss after allowing four runs on six hits with a walk and nine strikeouts
EXTRA BASES
- McCall extended her streak to 26 straight games of reaching base, the third best in program history and four games away from tying Janiva Willis for second
- Watson reached nine strikeouts in an outing for the seventh time this season and second consecutive start for the second time on the year
- Westbrooks three RBI moved her within four from 5th all-time as she now has 122 in her career
- She also connected on her 23rd career homerun, moving her into a tie for 5th all-time with Stephanie Reid
- The Eagles were without the services of their homerun and RBI leader in Ansley Gilreath on Sunday
- McCall stole another bag on Sunday and now has 25 on the year, which is just eight away from the program's single-season mark of 33

The Eagles will welcome Garner-Webb to Terry Field in a midweek Big South Conference doubleheader on Tuesday, Mar. 25 with first pitch scheduled at 4 p.m.
