Rock Hill, S.C. — Madyson Watson's no-hitter highlighted a doubleheader split with Gardner-Webb, Tuesday evening in Big South Conference softball action. Winthrop took the first game 9-0 in five innings behind the no-hitter from Watson and fell 5-3 in eight innings in the nightcap.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1 
	- Eagles jumped on the Runnin' Bulldogs early, pushing four runs across in the bottom of the first
- Macy McCall led off with an infield single and then stole second and third followed by a walk from Lauren King
- King stole second and a throw was made to third base to get McCall back to the bag but nobody was on the base the throw went into left field as McCall scored and King moved to third
- Madyson Watson walked to put runners at the corners and two batters later Taylor Charlton grounded into a fielder's choice but King scored for a 2-0 lead
- Ashley Westbrooks stepped up to the plate and line shot over the fence in right center on a 3-2 pitch for a 4-0 lead
- McCall reached on a bunt single down the third base line with one away in the second inning
- After McCall reached first the throw was off the mark and she moved over to second on the error
- King stood in and ripped a shot up the middle as McCall came around to score
- Eagles added four more runs in the third inning which started with one out as Kaitlyn Tucker stepped up and hit her first collegiate homerun with a shot to right center
- Bailey Warren singled with two outs and then stole second to get into scoring position
- McCall and King walked back-to-back to load the bases as Watson ripped a line drive to center to score Warren and McCall for an 8-0 lead
- Ansley Gilreath made it a nine run advantage with a single to center to score King from second
- Watson tossed a no-hitter as she finished with seven strikeouts to one walk in five innings
WHAT HAPPENED
Game 2
	- Gardner-Webb was the first to threaten as it loaded the bases in the top of the third inning
- Aisha Weixlmann walked Trinity Sterrett to load the bases, but bounced right back to get Andrea Lyon swinging to end the threat
- Runnin' Bulldogs struck with two outs in the top of the fifth inning as Weslyn Almond walked and then stole second
- Sterrett drew a walk to put two runners on and then Lyon came to the plate and hit an 0-1 pitch over the fence in left for a 3-0 lead
- Eagles got their first base runner when Tucker walked to lead off the bottom half
- Warren followed with the first hit for the Eagles as she took a 1-2 pitch through the left side to put two runners aboard
- Ashton Vanhouse laid down a sacrifice bunt that was fielded by Sterrett as she tried to get the force out at third base but her throw was off the mark on a close play
- The throw got by the third baseman and down the line into foul territory as Tucker and Warren scored and Vanhouse hustled all the way to third
- Vanhouse tied the game at 3-3 when she scored on a wild pitch
- The Eagles looked to do more damage when McCall singled with no outs, but the Runnin' Bulldogs turned a double play and then Watson was called out on strikes to end the inning
- With two outs in the top of the eighth, Brooke Perry hit a flare to right field for a single and then Tristen Horrell hit a two-run homer to right center for a 5-3 lead
- Winthrop got two runners aboard in the bottom of the eighth, but Warren got caught in a rundown after getting too far away from the bag and after being tagged Vanhouse was thrown out trying to take second to end the game
EXTRA BASES
	- McCall extended her streak to 28 straight games of reaching base, the third best in program history and two games away from tying Janiva Willis for second (30 straight)
- Westbrooks hit her 24th career homerun, putting her all alone in 5th all-time and she moves within three RBI of Leslie McAlister (126) for 5th all-time
ON DECK
Winthrop will remain home as it takes on Longwood in a three-game series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 27 at 1 p.m. on Terry Field. The final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
