Buies Creek, NC — The Winthrop softball team opened up Big South Conference action on the road at Campbell Friday afternoon as it split a doubleheader. The Eagles earned a 4-3 victory before falling 17-3 in the nightcap.

WHAT HAPPENED
Game 1
- Leading off the game Macy McCall put pressure on the defense forcing a fielding error, then stole second base on the first pitch, and moved over to third but was stranded
- Eagles did strike first though as McCall reached from a fielder's choice to get things started
- McCall then stole second and Lauren King singled to center field, scoring McCall for a 1-0 lead as King advanced to second on the throw
- Madyson Watson brought home King on a single to centerfield for the two run advantage
- Campbell answered right back in the bottom half of the third as Bryant led off with a triple followed by a England single and Ware double, tying the game up at 2-2
- Camels grabbed a 3-2 lead when Fredendall was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded
- With one out in the top of the fourth Ashley Westbrooks reached on an error by the third baseman with one out
- Chloe Baker and Bailey Warren draw back-to-back walks to load the bases as McCall came through with a two-run single for the 4-3 lead
- The Eagles held on to the lead in the seventh with a solid defense
- Watson earned her sixth win of the season after allowing three runs on seven hits with three walks and nine strikeouts
Game 2
- Campbell opened with a four-run first courtesy of a three-run homerun by Cortez for the early lead
- Winthrop cut the deficit in half in the top of the third inning as McCall hit a two-run homerun to right
- Campbell wasn't done as it pushed across seven runs in the bottom of the third for an 11-2 lead as
- Ansley Gilreath hit her 12th homerun of the season in the fourth with one out to make it an 11-3 game
- In the bottom of the fourth Campbell added six more runs (all six unearned) as Ware had a bases clearing triple to highlight the inning
EXTRA BASES
- McCall extended her streak of reaching base to 25 straight games
- Gilreath hit her 12th homerun of the season and 32nd of her career and is now just one behind Chelsea Schoenfeldt for the most all-time by a Winthrop player
- Watson moved into 10th all alone with 36 career wins
