Schedule Changes Made To Winthrop Kickoff Tournament

Rock Hill, S.C.— Winthrop softball will play five games this week starting with a single game at North Florida on Tuesday and will then host a tournament on the weekend. Eagles will open the Winthrop Kickoff Tournament on Friday at noon against Bowling Green.

The schedule for the Winthrop Kickoff Tournament has changed since it was first announced as Marshall has now dropped out. The updated schedule is below.

GLANCE AT THE EAGLES

Eagles began the season at the Feldburg's Invitational hosted by FIU and were 2-3
Senior first baseman Ansley Gilreath had a hot start at the plate and was named the Big South Conference Player of the Week
Gilreath leads the team with a .615 average as well as recording a team-high in runs (4), hits (8), homeruns (4) and RBI (6)
Gilreath is now all alone in 4^th place all-time in Winthrop history with 24 career homeruns
Macy McCall is off to a good start in her career with the Eagles, batting .429 with two runs and three stolen bases
Madyson Watson (3 starts) and Aisha Weixlmann (2 starts) accounted for all five starts in the circle
Freshman Bailey Warren is second on the team with three RBI

HEAD COACH WINDY THEES

Head coach Windy Thees is in her third season at Winthrop and in her 17^th season as head coach of a collegiate softball program
Spent five seasons at Georgia State & College compiling a 163-92 record followed by six years at Memphis (172-151) and three seasons at Ole Miss (69-94)
In her 17 seasons she's compiled an overall record of 448-376 and a record of 285-284 at the helm of a D1 program
Led Ole Miss to five wins over nationally-ranked opponents that included a 2-0 victory at #1 Florida in 2014
In 2003 she led Georgia State & College to a runner-up finish in the Division II National Championship
Thees was a four-year starter at Florida State as both a catcher and second baseman

RECORD BOOK WATCH

Westbrooks enters the season with 111 career RBI and 7^th all-time
She needs 35 to become the all-time leader in RBI at Winthrop
Gilreath jumped to 4^th on the all-time homerun list with 24 while Westbrooks is tied for 7^th all-time with 20 homeruns
Westbrooks is 14^th on the all-time hit list with 173 and 17 hits away from cracking the Top 10
Westbrooks is also moving up the ranks in doubles with 34 in her career, which is tied for 8^th (four away from 7^th place)
Watson is four wins away from the program's Top 10 and is also 21 strikeouts away from the Top 10 as well

Eagles will have no mid-week games next week as they'll be back in action when they host the Winthrop Garnet/Gold Classic Feb. 26-28.
